So much has happened behind the scenes this year at Our Lady's Academy! After a work-filled summer, our new playground is being enjoyed by the children. The extra padding under the turf will hopefully prevent some injuries, and the layout gives the students more room to enjoy themselves.

We have great addition to our academic program this year. We are providing a Greek and Latin Roots class that is being taught in grades 6-8. Our language is based on Greek and Latin roots, and knowledge of these roots will help the students with understanding their reading; knowing these roots will increase and improve their vocabulary. Additionally, knowing these roots will prove to be an asset when taking standardized tests, including the required assessments needed for private high school acceptances.

I feel strongly that Our Lady's Academy prepares its students to be ready for the technological world in which we live. Students in our Innovation Lab are encouraged to be creative, innovative, collaborative team players. In this lab, the students are learning to use technology as a tool to help them in their academic and daily lives. Basic skills such as word processing, graphing, and PowerPoint are taught, as well as more advanced concepts such as data gathering, web page building, and coding using Python and JavaScript. We also have two new 3D printers that can be used for projects.

All of our students learn about the Catholic faith and how God wants us to live in this ever-changing world. The students are given opportunities to practice their faith by taking part in a number of activities. Most recently, Our Lady's Academy adopted a classroom in Texas that was destroyed by Hurricane Irma. Be sure to read that post from our kindergarten teacher.

If you are curious about the school, I invite you to come for a visit to see what makes us special!
